It has a beautiful Spanish colonial design and lush floral backdrop. In addition, it’s one of the most stunning 5-star hotels in Los Angeles. The Bel Air Hotel received a makeover in 2011 that freshened and streamlined private rooms and public spaces while still maintaining the sleekly modern Art Deco aspects that pay tribute to its 1920s origin. Rooms and suites have dedicated iPads for everything from controlling climate features to ordering room service.

Countless movie stars have called the hotel home, including Grace Kelly and Marilyn Monroe. Stars like Julia Roberts, Tom Cruise, Ben Affleck and Nicole Kidman prove the hotel has lost none of its panache in the decades since. In addition, four films used the Hotel Bel Air as their setting. That includes Oscar Award-nominated “That Touch of Mink” with Cary Grant and Doris Day in 1961.

Travel Options

At just 13 miles from Hotel Bel Air, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is the most convenient destination for air travelers. Visitors who plan on renting a car should take South Sepulveda Boulevard from LAX to Howard Hughes Parkway, turning right onto the 405 North. Following the 405 for eight miles, travelers should then take the 57A Exit onto Sunset Boulevard. Follow Sunset for two and a half miles, making a left onto Stone Canyon Road. The Bel Air Hotel is at 701 Stone Canyon Road.

While the 405 is the most direct route, visitors may want to strategically time their arrival, as it is also one of L.A.’s most congested freeways. The luxury hotel doesn’t have a dedicated airport shuttle service. However, the concierge can schedule hired cars for guests traveling to and from the Hotel Bel Air.

Main Attractions Around Hotel Bel Air

1. Grauman’s Chinese Theatre

To experience iconic Hollywood, catch a movie at this famous theater, site of many premiers and just off the Hollywood Walk of Fame. While strolling the sidewalk in search of favorite names is a fun perk, the forecourt of the theater itself has hundreds of blocks imprinted with hand or footprints and messages scrawled in the concrete. Right around the corner is the new Dolby Theater, host of the annual Academy Awards.

2. Santa Monica Pier

Some of the most famous beaches in the world are in the section known as the Strand. That includes arty Venice Beach, classic Redondo Beach, and playground of the stars, Malibu Beach to the north. The area around the Santa Monica Pier has little shops and cafes. Even more, the pier itself is a fun way to spend an afternoon riding the various carnival-style attractions, like its famous merry-go-round.

3. Rodeo Drive

Packed with haute couture and trendy eateries, this part of Beverly Hills is instantly recognizable to fans of films like “Pretty Woman.” Shop top names like Versace and Fendi or just people watch for a true L.A. experience. At just about three miles from the hotel, guests can even use the complimentary car service to get here.

4. La Brea Tar Pits and Musem

With all that is glitzy and modern about L.A., the tar pits provide a fascinating glimpse into California’s distant Ice Age past. The museum highlights the animals found stranded in the pits. Their bones stand perfectly preserved, now recovered, and studied tens of thousands of years later. Visitors can tour the outdoor site as well as enjoy the exhibits inside the museum. Located just off of Wilshire Boulevard, it’s also right next door to the L.A. County Museum of Art, which has everything from pre-Columbian artifacts to modern art installations.

Final Words

Cultured and cosmopolitan, Los Angeles is a destination famous all over the world. Film aficionados will have endless fun scratching sites off their bucket lists. However, the area holds plenty of allure for nature lovers, sports fans, history buffs and foodies. Using the Hotel Bel Air as a luxurious home base allows visitors to explore the city at their own pace. Thrill-seekers can also try excellent skydiving experiences.
