Conclusion

It’s a tough choice to make between the Montauk Beach House and the Gurney's Montauk Resort and Seawater Spa, but somebody has to make it. We love both equally and for different reasons. The latter is a five-star property and the only one in the Hamptons, but you may also love a smaller, more intimate escape at a stylish boutique hotel. And boutique hotels rarely get a five-star rating, just because they usually cannot compete with the amenities of a larger luxury resort. We think both are equally lovely options for travelers with taste and refined requirements looking for great Montauk hotels.

If you prefer the luxury of a top-notch spa and more sprawling space, opt for Gurney's Montauk Resort and Seawater Spa. If you’re OK with “just” a continental breakfast and a lovely setting, then Montauk Beach House is a fantastic option and a great value.

If you travel on more of a budget, consider the Aqualina and the Ocean Surf Resort. The latter may be far from top-of-the-line, but it’s right at the beach and boasts sweeping ocean views. What more can you want from Montauk hotels? The Aqualina, meanwhile, is smack in the middle of downtown, which also has its conveniences.

Truly, there’s something for every taste and inclination. We're just happy to be in the Hamptons no matter where we stay (well, within reason), and we’d recommend both the marvelous Montauk Beach House and the Gurney with its fantastic spa to all of our friends and family in a heartbeat.
